The influence of exhaust gas recirculation on the characteristics of compression ignition engines powered by tamanu methyl ester

Abstract This study aims to assess the performance of compression ignition (CI) engine powered with various biodiesels. The used for this test was a single-cylinder, water-cooled, naturally aspirated, CI engine. biodiesels in were neem methyl ester (NME), mahua (MME), cottonseed (CME), tamanu (TME) and Albizia saman (AME). According results, TME-operated had 2.69%, 10.53%, 6.31% 5.49% higher brake thermal efficiency than MME, NME, CME AME, respectively, without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). Tamanu biodiesel outperformed other fuels terms emissions. As result, chosen as best fuel further testing. results showed that emitted more oxides nitrogen (NOx) emissions diesel. EGR could be engine, resulting significant reduction NOx emission. Compared conditions, percentages 5%, 10% 15% produced 9.9%, 18% 21.3% less combination resulted slight increase hydrocarbon, smoke carbon monoxide but substantial study’s findings, demonstrated optimal characteristics while having low environmental impact.
